MAY THE PEACE AND LOVE OF THE HOLY BE
WITH YOU From the earliest of
time, we have mourned the loss of children. One of our oldest historical
recordings, the Old Testament, records this passage of mourning: "Rachel mourns
her children; she refuses to be consoled because her children are no more.
Thus says the Lord: Cease you cries of mourning. Wipe the tears from your
eyes. The sorrow you have shown shall have its reward. There is hope for your
future." Jeremiah 31: 15-17 Unfortunately,
tears of mourning continue to flow abundantly today and everyday.
Individuals, couples, families and communities mourn the loss of children by
stillbirth, miscarriage, accidents, abuse and abortion. These scars do not
seem to diminish over time. In fact, many times the scars turn into post
trauma chaos and crisis. While the abortion may be thought of "as a
problem to be solved" at the time, the experience becomes a traumatic
memory in the months and years to come. Depending on the
source, between 33% and 45% of women have had an abortion. The statistical
data from churches site an equivalent ratio "within" the churches.
The walking wounded are everywhere.
Feelings of isolation, panic, anxiety guilt and shame may become paralyzing.
For those actively participating in rather rigid denominational church, the feelings
of shame, isolation and guilt may be compounded by both the rigid religious
beliefs and feelings of profound isolation. Most programs of
reconciliation for these survivors are within the context of a crisis
pregnancy program. Few independent programs focusing solely on the post
abortion survivor exist. Rachel's HOPE at the ANASTASIS CENTER of Healing and
Reconciliation is an independent program. While we are pro-life in
orientation, we are not funded or sponsored by any national advocacy group,
do not offer any crisis pregnancy services, protest, advocate against
abortion or pass judgment. This program’s “SOLE” purpose to help you heal
from the loss of your child. If you are like most survivors, you were
"helped" with your decision to abort by others. Many may have had another
agenda operating at the same time.... we do not. Our ONLY focus and purpose
